This set contains 144 tiles for the Chinese version of mahjong. The tiles are inscribed with Chinese characters only and no joker tiles or racks are included.

  • PLEASE NOTE: This is a traditional Chinese mahjong set designed for Chinese mahjong rules. It does not contain joker tiles or racks and has only eight flowers tiles! If you are buying this set as a gift and are unsure whether the recipient plays American or Chinese style mahjong, your best bet is to purchase an American set. American sets contain all the tiles for the Chinese version of the game as well as additional tiles for the American version.

I bought this set recently and definitely not your run of the mill vinyl case as it has the chinese word for "luck" on the case. The tiles themselves are huge! These things are probably larger than any chinese set that you would've come into contact with until now. The one thing I do like about these tiles is that carvings are gigantic! The 1 bamboo takes up the entire length of the tile and the 1 dot is the size of a US quarter! Also, the dice are rather large, which is nice since it becomes more legible. Now for the bad, the wind indicator was a little lackluster; it actually broke into pieces when I dropped it from my desk onto carpet. This can be easily solved with some browsing online or at your local chinatown and paying anywhere from less than a dollar to a few bucks to get yourself a new one. The main problem that I encountered was the fact that the plastic tray that carried the dice and the wind indicator was broken. The customer service person that helped me with this was very kind about it and even offered a partial refund and a cute mouse pad for my troubles. I do want to point out that the good outweighs the bad immensely as this is a very good set for those that are beginners or veterans.

These are huge and have a terrific weight, sound and are easy to handle. Each tile has large symbols and are very thick and stand up easily. This set has become the favorite and everybody here loves them. If you play Asian forms of Mahjong these are the ones to get!
