I like this book for its clear introduction to the Cantonese, Shanghainese, and Taiwanese versions of Mahjong. If you want to play the more traditional variations of the game this is a useful book. The official write-up for this book says you'll be "up and playing with Chinese mahjong experts in no time." That's an exaggeration, because the author really doesn't go into depth on strategy, but still this is a good, clear introductory book.
