Shin Kaya 2.4" Go Table Board Goban
Brand: Yellow Mountain Imports
This Japanese standard size Shin-Kaya Goban set comes with a standard clear finish for a nice clean appearance and feel. Looks like kaya, feels like kaya, but doesn?øt cost like kaya.
Most shin-kaya (Japanese for "alternative kaya") boards from Japan or Korea are made of spruce wood from Alaska or Siberia. Our shin-kaya Go boards are made of Tibet spruce wood from Yunnan Province in southern China. This type of wood is called "picea asperata" in Latin and is sometimes called "dragon spruce" or "Tibet Spruce".
- One 2.4" (60mm) thick shin kaya table board (goban). This board is made of 2-4 solid pieces of wood joined together to prevent warping over time. Please note, because of the nature of wood, the grain will be similar but not identical to the pictures.
- Board is Japanese standard size (21.5mm x 23mm grids) and measures 18.1" x 16.9" x 2.4" (460mm x 430mm x 60mm). Playing field is 19x19.
- Booklet on how to play go, "The Way to Go", by Karl Baker.
- Stones sold separately. Please see our other listings for Go stones!

My New Go Board
I just opened my new Go Table Board made from 2.4 inch Shin Kaya wood. I received the board right on schedule, well packed and in perfect condition. This board has exceeded my expectations. I already own an Agathis board which has a paint wash surface to offset the dark grain of that wood. The Shin Kaya is made of Tibet spruce, a lighter and softer wood that allows my to enjoy the wood grain during play. I was also surprised to find this board was one piece when the web description said the board would be made from 2 to 4 pieces of wood joined together. I am writing this review right after unpacking the board, and am excited to enjoy the sound of stones on the surface. Perhaps my skill will improve. Thank you You, Yellow Mountain Imports.
