The quality-control standards of these cards is somewhat below that of American (or even European) made conventional playing-cards: there are punctures in some cards which are visible (and tangible) on both the front and back of the cards, in addition to scrapes and smears of excess ink. I purchased two decks and both had these defects. It is likely that this is a consistent problem with their manufacture. The cardstock is thinner than our American, mass-produced cards (they are comparable, however, to the cardstock of, say, Lo Scarabeo, or Heraclio Fournier), and there is no lamination. In conclusion, these cards are adequate for learning the rules and instruction, but are positively no substitute for proper acrylic Mahjong pai2 (tiles).

This is our first time at playing Mahjong. These playing cards are just what we needed for beginners. Quality playing cards that are just the right size. Don't take up a lot of space but are easily seen by us seniors. Would be nice if beginning playing directions were included.
