This collector's American mahjong set comes with a vintage style wooden box and 166 tiles crafted from cattle bone and bamboo. A true classic!
- American Mahjong Set, "Sparrows": Just as the early imported mahjong sets from the 1920s, this set is crafted from snow white cattle bone and delicate slabs of bamboo; This versatile set is playable with both American and Chinese Mahjong rules
- Handcrafted Mahjong Tiles: Each tile measures 1.2 x 0.8 x 0.5 inch (3.1 x 2.1 x 1.2 centimeters) and are traditional standard size, making them slightly smaller than contemporary tiles; Tile markings are carved and painted by hand, and the bone and bamboo halves are dovetailed together; Since the tiles are handcrafted, the color and shape charmingly and subtly vary

- Classic Five-Drawer Rosewood Case: Tiles are stored in separate drawers with a front cover panel decorated with shell inlays depicting birds in flight, floral images, calligraphy, and geometric designs; The wooden box measures 9.2 x 6.7 x 7.3 inches (23.4 x 17 x 18.5 centimeters); Complete set weighs 7.8 pounds (3.52 kilograms)
Easy ordering, quick delivery. I would def order again from Yellow Mountain.
This set is similar to the wood boxes from the 1920s, except for the disappointing masonite back panel with holes to stick your fingers through to push open the drawers. The bamboo and bone tiles are handmade and nice. But my box has a deep crack in the wood, and one of the tiles has a distinctive stain that is visible while playing. I notified Yellow Mountain Imports of the problems about a week ago, but no answer from them yet, only an acknowledgment that they received my message.
