Shin Kaya 1.2" Go Table Board Goban
Brand: Yellow Mountain Imports
This is a Japanese standard size Shin-Kaya Goban. Looks like kaya, feels like kaya, but doesn't cost like kaya. The board is reversible with 19x19 on one side and 13x13 on the other. The board is made of 2-4 solid pieces of wood joined together to prevent warping over time. Pieces are expertly selected and joined together to appear almost seamless.
Most shin-kaya (Japanese for "alternative kaya") boards from Japan or Korea are made of spruce wood from Alaska or Siberia. Our shin-kaya Go boards are made of Tibet spruce wood from Yunnan Province in southern China. This type of wood is called "picea asperata" in Latin and is sometimes called "dragon spruce" or "Tibet Spruce".
- One 1.2" (30mm) thick shin kaya table board (goban). This board is made of 2-4 solid pieces of wood joined together to prevent warping over time. Please note, because of the nature of wood, the grain will be similar but not identical to the pictures.
- Board is Japanese standard size (21.5mm x 23mm grids) and measures 18.1" x 16.9" x 1.2" (460mm x 430mm x 30mm). Playing field is reversible 19x19 and 13x13.
- Booklet on how to play go, "The Way to Go", by Karl Baker.
A very lovely board. I love my board. Sturdy and with a beautiful grain and weight.
Shin kaya 1.2”
I love the board and play with friends every Thursday. They all talk about the good feel of my board. It is just the right thickness, not too heavy, to carry in a bag, but still a solid feel while playing.
The board looks great. It is thicker than I expected. Very sturdy with clean lines and a nice finish.
Beautiful board and wood grain
I love the board, but it was a bit glossier than I anticipated. I recommend the matching felt cover for protection from dust and scratches
