Shin Kaya 0.8" Reversible 13x13 | 9x9 Go Board with Double Convex Stones

Brand: Yellow Mountain Imports

This goban, along with our melamine stones, is perfect for learning Go, introducing Go to a friend or family member, practicing Go problems, or for quick Go games.

On one side is a 13x13 board and on the other is a 9x9 board. Why play on a learning board? On a standard 19x19 board the possible combination of Go positions approaches infinity, and a game can last for hours - keep your skills sharp by playing on a smaller board when you don't have time for a full-length game. Even if you already have a standard 19x19 goban, you'll appreciate the informality and convenience of this small board.

This board is paired with a set of double convex melamine stones. Melamine is an exceptionally durable compound commonly used when strength is essential, such as kitchen counters and industrial applications. These are excellent stones to use in an environment where the stones will be put to constant, hard use. Like Yunzi stones, they have a satisfying heft and snap to them.

Great for go clubs, starter sets or as a substitute for when you don't want to take out your expensive set of stones.

  • Reversible Go board (goban); the playing fields are reversible, 13x13 on one side and 9x9 on the other; in a standard 19x19 board, the possible combinations of Go positions are infinite, and a game can last for hours; the smaller playing fields of this board keep your skills sharp by allowing you to play shorter games when you don't have time for a full-length one; even if you already have a standard 19x19 goban, you will appreciate the informality and convenience of these smaller playing fields
  • Supreme shin kaya wood; this is a 0.8 of an inch (2 centimeters) thick shin kaya solid wood table board (goban); please note, because of the nature of wood, the grain will be similar but not identical to the images you see in this product listing; playing Go on a quality wood table board connects one with the hundreds of generations of Go players who have played on shin kaya since ancient times
  • Japanese standard size; this board is Japanese standard size meaning the grids are 21.5 x 23 millimeters; the board's dimensions are 14 x 13 x 0.8 inches (35.5 x 33 x 2 centimeters)
  • Stones and bowls; 181 black and 180 white melamine stones are included; each stone is a 7.5 millimeter (size 28) double convex stone measuring about 7.5 millimeters tall and 21 millimeters wide (approximately 0.3 x 0.83 inches); 2 plastic bowls (gosu) to store stones is included; a booklet explaining the essential rules and strategies of go is also included with this set

Nice kayak board!

I wish I would have bought the heavier stones now. These Are a little to lite in my opinion.

Better than I expected

Fantastic. It shipped quickly, and was packaged very safely (double-boxed + styrofoam or something like it). The board and stones look and feel much better than I was expecting at such a low price. Only thing I wish was different was the bowls. They work fine and I haven't had any problems, but I gladly would've paid 5 or 10 more dollars for bowls that felt a bit sturdier and secure. Overall I still wholeheartedly recommend this set, though I wish it came with bowls of a slightly higher quality.
